What ends up in a couch?

More than you would think, and it arrives slowly. Body oil where heads and hands land every night. An armrest a shade darker than the back. Crumbs and grit worked into the seams by years of sitting. The spill somebody flipped a cushion over instead of mentioning. If you have a dog, one seat that is officially theirs now.

None of that means anyone is dirty. The couch simply works more hours than anything else you own, and fabric keeps what it is given. Vacuuming lifts the loose surface layer. The oils and the ground-in soil stay until something pulls them out. A couch in daily use earns a cleaning every year or two, sooner with pets or kids.

Which method will not wreck the fabric?

The trade word for this work is upholstery cleaning. In your living room, it is just the couch. Either way, the job starts in the same place: the tag.

Under a cushion or along a seam sits the manufacturer's cleaning code, a letter that says what the fabric can survive.

Reading it wrong is how couches get wrecked. Water on a water-safe fabric gives you a clean couch. Water on a solvent-only fabric gives you brown out: permanent brownish rings that no second visit can undo. So the fabric read comes first, every time, before any equipment comes through your door.

Most couches: the wet clean

An organic enzyme pre-treatment goes on first to loosen body oil and ground-in soil. Then hot water extraction rinses the fabric and pulls the moisture right back out. We bring our own softened water for it, which rinses cleaner than hard tap water and leaves nothing behind in the fiber.

Delicate fabrics: the true dry process

Some fabrics cannot take water at all. For those there is a dry process: dry-cleaning solvent misted on, given time to work, agitated with a soft brush and clean cotton towels, then extracted. No water touches the piece at any point. Few outfits in town carry that process. It exists for the fabrics where the wrong method would do permanent damage.

Leather is its own job. It gets cleaned, then conditioned, so it stays soft instead of drying out.

What about the smell?

Pet odor does not spray away. Fragrance sits on top of a smell and quits within a week. The honest fix is an enzyme treatment that breaks down what is causing the odor at the source. If an accident soaked into the cushion foam, the tech will say so up front and tell you what treatment can reach.

03 · The visit

How does the visit go?

1. You call. The phone is answered live, any hour of the day. You pick a time that works; jobs run Monday through Friday.

2. You look at the couch together. The tech checks the fabric, the tag, and the spots you are worried about, then gives you the exact total for the work. Before anything starts, not after.

3. Yes means now. If the number works, the cleaning happens in the same visit. Everything needed is already on the truck, and most visits run about two hours.

4. No means no hard feelings. If the number does not fit, that is the end of it. No charge for the look, no pressure at the door.
